Sjoukje* Bierma is a fashion illustrator and portrait painter, based in Amsterdam. She graduated in Fashion Design & Illustration at the Academy of Arts, Arnhem (now ArtEZ).
In 2009, after a long career in the fashion industry (as a designer, creative lead and illustrator) she turned her focus entirely to fashion illustration and painting.
Her fashion illustrations are hand-drawn, generally with a limited colour palette, using mainly pencil, ink and gouache on paper.
Her portraits and paintings are also hand-drawn but use a broader palette and a wider range of media and techniques (including acrylic oil, gouache, watercolour, appliquéd gold leaf).
Sjoukje’s work is displayed in private collections around the world, and used by fashion brands and media.
Recent clients and collaborations include:
Amsterdam International Fashion Week; Cartier; Claudia Strater; Dr. Martens; Edwin Oudshoorn Couture; Het Parool; Keune Hair Cosmetics; L’officiel nl; Libelle; Modefabriek; RTL Woonmagazine; Summum & Summum Studio; The Green Gallery.com; Villa D’Arte.
Sjoukje is a guest tutor of fashion illustration and model drawing for academies of fashion and fine art, including Amsterdam Fashion Institute (Fashion & Design Honours programme) and the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts & Design. She also gives private master-classes in fashion illustration from her atelier in Amsterdam.
